Book Grading Guide

As New

Near perfect condition, book and dustjacket in the same condition as when it was published.

Fine (FN)

Excellent condition. May have been opened and read but no defects to the book or its pages aside from small signs of ownership and storage. Dustjacket as new but with slight rubbing along edge and corners.

Very Good (VG)

Visible wear and possibly slight slight foxing or fading but no outright faults. Dustjacket clean with excellent colouring but with scuffing to edges and corners. Any defects present will be noted in the listing.

Good (G)

An average used worn book that has all pages present and are complete in all respects. Dustjacket (if present) fairly clean but suffering from scuffs, marks, creasing and other signs of wear. May have some small tears. Any defects present will be noted in the listing.

Fair (F)

A worn book that has complete text pages, including those with maps or plates, but may lack endpapers, half-title, etc. Binding, jacket (if any), etc., may also be worn. All defects will be noted.

Poor (P)

Book will display serious wear and damage. It may be warped, soiled, scuffed, stained, spotted or missing preliminary pages and may have loose joints, hinges and/ or spine irreparably damaged. The text however will be complete but the book is really only suitable as a reading copy. Dustjacket (if present) will be tatty and grubby and may well be marked, creased or torn.
